Many arrived through Central America via Carretera Real – it was then an unbroken route connecting Mexico City with Sinaloa overland through Tehuantepec Province (now Yuma County) east of Tucson before turning south along routes including Old Route 66 corridor that crossed into Arizona Territory before terminating at Chirripa on Ute Mountain about 12 miles west of present-day Escondido Ridge Road south of Interstate 5.) In 1919, American oilman Harold Ickes purchased Rancho Niguel from his brother-in-law Juan Ortiz de la Vega for $3 million dollars. Ickes renamed it Agoura Hills after his childhood home town in England where he had been born on December 15th, 1882! In 1865 an act of Congress called for all towns in California over 25 thousand people to have their own government consisting of a Mayor/Aldermanic Board with power to make laws regulating public morals as well as provide for streetlighting and other local needs In 1911 when Hollywood became available within commuting distance through Southern Californian railways there were numerous offers for land parcels contiguous with or near Hollywood including one from real estate magnate Maurice Hirschhorn who offered $10 million dollars! When Hirschhorn's offer was refused by others he formed his own company - Universal Pictures Corporation - which soon distributed Vitaphone movies throughout Southern California! On May 15th 1915 – less than 2 years after incorporation – Agoura Hills incorporated under state law as a town!
