Agoura Hills was a census-designated place (CDP) in Los Angeles County, California, United States. As of the 2010 census, its population was 37,094. The CDP is part of the Westchester–Salinas area and is adjacent to Midtown Los Angeles. The name Agoura Hills comes from two places: Agoura Hills Village and Agoura Hill. The village was first settled in 1887 by John Doheny and his family as a Lockheed Aircraft factory town northwest of downtown Los Angeles. After World War I, the area became an agricultural center with large holdings by early settlers such as J. P. Morgan, Hideo Kojima, Roy Rogers and others. In 1923, Warner Bros., Universal Pictures and 20th Century Fox built a new movie studio on Newhall Street near Mulholland Drive in what is now Midtown LA; they named it The Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel after President Franklin D. Roosevelt who had visited their company's plant there in 1924 while touring Southern California for his presidential campaign.. A few years later other studios followed suit including Columbia Pictures in 1939; Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer in 1941; and RKO Radio Pictures in 1942 which led to the creation of Calumet Park which extended from Sunset Boulevard south to La Brea Avenue eastward between First Street and Vine Street near Dodger Stadiums then known as "The Panhandle". This area would become home to many famous Hollywood stars like Rita Hayworth (now interred at nearby Holy Cross Cemetery), Humphrey Bogart (now buried at Beverly Hills Cemetery) and Cary Grant (now interred at Forest Lawn Memorial Park).
