In 1936, Oswald Garrison Villard brought suit against the City of Los Angeles for failing to issue him a license plate with the words "Oswald Garrison Villard" written on it because he owned no car other than a bicycle! The lawsuit went all the way to court before being dismissed on procedural grounds (the city did not have enough evidence). The next year saw another Hard Gun Case when Harry Golden charged Julius Rosenberg with conspiracy to commit perjury after Rudolph Abel revealed that Rosenberg had helped plant bugs inside United States Naval Intelligence Headquarters during World War II! Golden won this case on summary judgment but later appealed based on errors made by his attorneys during trial which ultimately led to his acquittal (see Rosenberg v Golden). Villard v LA also took place in 1938; this time it involved charges brought against Mayor Antonio Ratzinger Jr., who allegedly profited from sales of part-time parking permits (!), while head of City Hall’s public works division – actions considered antitrust violations at the time! However Ratzinger successfully argued that as mayor he would be immune from any legal action as long as he continued serving constitutionally under banishment proceedings pending against Pope Pius XII due to allegations related thereto! Ultimately ratzinger walked free despite facing several felony charges including bribery and obstruction of justice
