Smith, Possum Trotter and Company produced rifles and pistols at his original location on Sepulveda Boulevard. In 1857, the company moved to its current location on Ventura Boulevard and continued manufacturing firearms until 1903 when it merged with Winchester Repeating Arms Company. At that time, Agoura Hills became a subsidiary of Winchester-Winchester Repeating Arms Company. From 1903-1911,Agoura Hills was also the primary production site for the Model 1909 American Rifle which is considered to be one of the most important handguns in history. Other firearm products from this period include shotguns, machine guns and grenades. In 1911, Winchester-Winchester Repeating Arms Company merged with Remington Arms Corporation forming what is known today as Remington Arms Company Incorporated (RAC). RAC manufactured shotguns, rifles and pistols under three different brands: Remington®, 3000®, 8000® assault rifles; Mossberg 500®, 765® shotgun cartridges; Republican Armory Corp., 9mm Luger pistol cartridge; Arsenal Ammunition Co., 45acp revolver ammunition. In 1934, RAC united with other rifle divisions of Remington into the newly created Firearms Division which remains today one of the largest rifle manufactures in the world. In 1985, RAC was sold to Browning Machine & Tool Corporation who still manufacture firearms here today including revolvers ( among them Ruger models), pumpguns and shotguns under several brands including Christensen & Rasmussen (Barrett) and Wesson Firearms Manufacturing Co.(Walther).

At that time, there were no Firearms Ordinance laws in California and firearms were only allowed for holders of a license from the state. A few years later, a group of handgun enthusiasts formed a club and began purchasing and selling handguns. The club soon became popular and membership grew to around 25 people. In 1895, the town passed an ordinance allowing citizens to possess firearms without a license. The new law also created a registry of all firearms owners in the town. This helped to reduce gun violence and crime in the area. In 1912, another ordinance was passed requiring all citizens over 21 years old to obtain a license to carry a firearm. This law increased safety by regulating who could carry handguns and helping to keep hands off weapons while walking or driving around town. Additionally, this law made it illegal for anyone under 21 years old to possess any kind of weapon without an adult’s permission. This policy helped protect children from being involved in gun violence or crime while they were still young adults. In 1940, Agoura Hills decided to become an unincorporated community and adopted its own ordinance authorizing citizens over 18 years old to possessing firearms without prior written consent from their parents or guardians. This policy helped protect kids from having access to dangerous weapon regardless of their age at the time- something that had been common earlier on in Agoura Hills’ history with regards guns. The first Europeans to visit what is now Agoura Hills were Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo and his Menéndez de Avilés on October 25, 1542 during their voyage from Spain to Mexico City. They named the location San Pedro de la Gorgonía after St. Peter's Basilica in Rome. In 1777, Mission Santa Barbara (later Santa Paula) was founded by Franciscan missionaries and it became one of the most important missions in California due to its proximity to rich silver mines near Simi Valley. In 1821, Agoura Hills was incorporated as a town within Ventura County with a population of just over 500 people. The town grew rapidly due to its strategic location between two major mining areas: the Carpinteria gold field and the Simi Valley silver mine that produced more than $1 million in annual revenue for Ventura County by 1835. In 1861, when Congress extended voting rights to women, Agoura Hills voted not to incorporation intoLos Angeles but did merge with nearby Isleton Heights into one municipality under new legislation known as "the Placer towns act". The city's rapid growth continued through World War II until employment opportunities dried up in postwar years as various industries closed down or left for other locations across America. After years of struggling against unique challenges such as low tax rates and an unyielding housing market demand that never abated even as prices rose 20-fold since 1960s median home prices), Agoura Hills finally achieved stability during the 1990s following passage of Proposition 13 which capped property values at $500 per square foot starting in 1995 and required all new residential construction be single family homes or smaller co-ops limited no later than 3 stories high—a policy that continues today with few exceptions seen only along arterial streets near downtown where higher priced properties continue to dominate; also consistent with trends throughout much of Southern Californiaand many other American cities since then are homeownership rates considerably above 60%.
