The population has gradually declined since 2000 because of various factors including suburban sprawl, loss of manufacturing jobs in Silicon Valley, aging population and new housing developments around Interstate 10. There are several shopping centers located near Agoura Hills Elementary School which serve both local residents and commuters from downtown LA or West Hollywood. One major retail center is located just north of Interstate 10 exit 232 off Highway 101: Northridge Mall (in what used to be called Northridge Village).
