Agoura Hills, California is a city in Los Angeles County, California. It is located on the eastern edge of the San Gabriel Mountains and is bordered by Pasadena to the north, Holmby Hills to the east, Mid-City to the south and Westchester County to the west. The population was 207,391 at the 2010 census. Agoura Hills was originally named after its founder and first mayor John A. Gilpin Agoura (1858-1925). The name "Agoura" comes from an old Ojibwa word meaning "a great oak tree." The first mention of what would become Agoura Hills was made in 1887 when Major George Armstrong Copley purchased 6 acres of land near present day Sepulveda Boulevard and East Long Beach Boulevard for $5 per acre. At that time it was part of unincorporated Los Angeles County. In 1907, Drury Wright developed a large citrus orchard on what would become known as Wright Park Drive southeast of downtown Los Angeles. This orchard yielded high quality fruit that helped establish Wright's reputation as one of LA's leading growers and distributors. By 1915, Wright had increased his holdings to 27 acres (11 hectares) including what would become Agoura Hills; he renamed it after himself in honor of his victory in a local election against rival farmer Adolphus Greeley Jr.. In 1922, he sold his holdings to Harry Haldeman who built him a mansion overlooking Doheny Canyon – now home to UCLA Bruins basketball games – remains one of Southern California's most grandiose residences during that era. In 1925 Mayor John A. Gilpin Agoura founded City Hall with funds provided by friends including Edward Riddle Cummings and Jock Mahoney Sr.. On October 15th 1925 City Council voted 6-0 to annex farmland stretching from Seal Beach along East Long Beach Boulevard southward for .5 miles (8 kilometers) towards Carson City Road just east of now Green Valley Ranch Golf Course; this annexation created much controversy as many feared that agrarian values would be lost if too much land were annexed near residential areas populated by workingclass people with insufficient financial resources such as themselves On November 3rd 1925 Mayor Gilpin issued proclamation approving annexation which became effective immediately upon signature by Governor James Irvine On January 1st 1926 residents approved building permits for their new city limits which embraced all but 1/2 mile (1 kilometer) of present day Sepulveda Boulevard between Lankershim Boulevard and Baldwin Avenue while adjoining Hernandez Farms extending northeasterly 1/4 mile (.50 kilometers)) towards Carson City Road also becoming effective immediately upon permit issuance By 1930 there were over 100 homes & businesses within city limits & more than 400 residents employed in various trades within municipality growing rapidly into one Of Southern California’s most lively communities until global depression began shortly thereafter causing rapid decline & migration away from region

Agoura Hills, California was founded in 1879 by George Agoura and named after his father, George Agoura. The town's first post office was opened in 1881. In 1893, the railroad extended from San Francisco to Agoura Hills and the community rapidly grew. By 1920, there were over 1,500 residents living in Agoura Hills. The growth of the city led to various infrastructure projects such as a new water system and a school district that served the community well until 1923 when World War I halted development. After the war, many small businesses closed down and people turned their attention to larger cities such as Los Angeles or Southern California. However, some of the original settlers from Alhambra still live in Agoura Hills today and contribute significantly to its culture and history. Aguaras were one of several groups who made up what is now known as Mission Americano de la Raza (MARR). In 1863-1865 Marrans traveled throughout California searching for an organization which would help them improve their lives. When they failed to find any acceptable candidates within their own group they decided to form another society separate from Mexican America - La Raza Libre (LAR). MARR officially became a national organization on November 6th 1865 with José Joaquin Crespo as its first president In 1870s there were few permanent English speaking residents in AGOURA HILLS so most business transactions took place through Spanish which also served as the language of instruction for local kids at local schools Spanish classes continued even after school hours It wasn't until 1901 when a public library was built that AGOURA HILLS began experiencing significant waves of population growth The city annexed unincorporated areas including portions of Carpinteria Canyon east of Bob Hope Boulevard between 1915-1920 making it official that AGOURA HILLS had become an incorporated city
