The town was founded in 1887 by Joshua Laughlin and his wife Eliza Brouwer as a post office on Rancho Cucamonga's east side. Laughlin named it after Adelanto, Italy where he had been born in 1852. The first post office closed in 1888 and Adelanto became a village in 1912 with a population of just over fifty people; however, it grew rapidly due to the construction of roads and other infrastructure that increased shipping traffic through that area. In 1938, the community consolidated with neighboring township of Porter to form the Riverside-San Bernardino-Ontario metropolitan statistical area (MSA). today Adelanto has continue growth thanks to its rich history and culture!
