In 1916 Edwin Haines started making artificial snow for use at dances in Riverside County; he donated one acre (0.40 ha) of land to be used forever as a ski slope called Ski Hill Mountain Resort/Adelanto ski area today). His gift remains an important aspect of skiing in Adelallo today!
