The history of West Memphis can be traced back to 1892 when Wm Blythe and his brother James opened a store in what is now known as West Memphis. In 1907, Jno Hines bought out Wm Blythe's share in the business and began trading as Jno Hines & Co. By this time, there were two other stores in town - one operated by John Ladd and another by Fenton McMillan - both of which continued to grow into large businesses over time. In 1911, Fenton McMillan sold his interest in Jno Hines & Co., moving his operations to what are now North First Street and Beale Street east of Main Street. In 1935, Ethel Mae Waters purchased an eighty-acre (30 ha) tract from David Meek for $2,000 cash; this land served as her home until her death on January 15th, 2009. She had originally planned to build a house on it but decided against it due to concerns about potential future fires that could damage her property or set off fireworks displays close by during summertime events like Fourth of July parades or Fourth of July picnics; she instead decided to use the acreage for educational purposes within the townshe had helped create 16 years earlier through her work with the Arkansas Department of Education's School District No. 2 which included then-West Memphis Elementary School located just east of Main Street). On October 1st, 2007 – more than three decades after Mrs Waters' purchase – construction began on what would become known as "The Queen" demolition project initiated by Mayor Andy Hillman who wantedTo make way for a new elementary school within walking distance (and currently under construction)of all residents within The Queen development bounded by Second Avenue south/west/northwest; Third Avenue east/southwest; northwest corner lot of alley between Third Avenue and Court Road; northeast corner lot between Second Avenue and Court RoadA new elementary school has since been built on this site renamed "Homeschool Academy" inside The Queen development - making it easier for parents today who want their children educated close at hand without having to leave their homes! He also stated that he didn't want any sign outside "The Queen" that said "This Property Is Reserved For Schools." Accordingto him,"It doesn't belong downtown anymore." Today many people refer to "The Queen" simply as "West Memphis". There have been no plans announced yet for any kind redevelopment or expansion either inside or outside Of West Memphis itself aside from some refurbishing / painting / rehangingof some older buildings inside 'The Queen'.

West Memphis, Arkansas is a town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 2,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tulsa metropolitan area. West Memphis is located on the Arkansas River and includes portions of what are now Little Rock and Jonesboro. The town was founded in 1881 by John Neely Bryan as a small cotton plantation near what is now downtown West Memphis. In 1899, Bryan donated land to the county for a new courthouse and jail which were completed in 1902. The town flourished until the early 1960s when a severe drought led to an increase in crime and social unrest. In 1969, then-Governor Orval Faubus enacted draconian laws that effectively closed down most of downtown West Memphis while maintaining control over its borders and boundaries between areas under state jurisdiction and those under local jurisdiction. As a result of this policy change, much of downtown was destroyed or severely damaged during the 1970s blighting process which followed Little Rock's successful revitalization efforts. In response to increased demand for housing following Walmart's opening in 2001 within walking distance of both Old Main University (MO U) and White Sands High School (NM HS), several developersvelanded around Downtown West Memphis beginning in 2006 with plans to bring up to 100 family units per acre onto some 22 acres currently used as open space without any public input or review from either residents or elected officials who controlled access thereto due to Faubus' policies still extant today despite Court decisions overturning many aspects thereof such as restrictions on parking permits being granted for developments adjacent thereto) leading ultimately to condemnation notices being given not only against properties within city limits bordering upon Downtown but also neighboring apartment complexes situated on privately owned agricultural land abutting Interstate 20/30 providing yet another source of income for Developers while reducing access thereto shouldered by citizens until finally City Council resolution granting first right-of-way through private property owner unto Planning Department pursuant thereto finally ended Developer opposition once again creating what has been dubbed "Downtown West Memphis" since it reopenedalbeit with numerous limitations including no street names nor zoning classification herein making it difficult if not impossible to determine where exact boundaries lies between various lots included therein thereby rendering it almost impossible even today ascertain just how much ground actually remainswithinstinctively calling it "The Scary Place".
In 1838, a group of Mormons from Illinois arrived in West Memphis and set up a farming community. The town began to grow when the U.S. government allowed slavery in the area and began to import goods from Missouri. In 1864, West Memphis was incorporated as a city with its own government and police force. It remained an independent municipality until 1971, when it became part of the larger city of Memphis.
