In 1893 voters approved annexing Cedar Rapids Township into Pulaski County so that it would have more business opportunities available to it from outside investors.
By 1903 there were over 100 businesses operating in Van Buren with over 50% employment outside agriculture.
In 1907 Third Ward Alderman Geo Fenton proposed annexation into Pulaski County proper but this proposal too met resistance as many people felt that they wanted their own government rather than becoming part of what they saw as an increasing financial burden for county coffers.
Despite these challenges and opposition from some residents during his final term as Third Ward Alderman between 1907-1911 he successfully pushed through annexation despite strong opposition from some residents who felt they should retain control over their affairs.
From 1911 until 1975 when Pulaski County merged with Ford County both entities continued to operate under separate laws until finally unification took place effective January 1st., 1975.
