Van Buren is a town in Stephens County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 715 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Stephens County. After World War II ended in 1945 (the war's end date), many small businesses closed because no new business licenses were issued until after 1947 because of wartime supplies shortages caused by Germany's occupation during World War II. Many buildings that once stood abandoned orICKNOWHERE remain standing including The Gist Mill where James Gist used to live/work before he died aged 90 years old in 1951; also remaining are four houses on Main Street - three have been renovated and one has been left untouched since Prohibition ended more than 100 years ago!* These are all part of what has become known as "Old Town Van Buren." *during prohibition days these buildings housed moonshine operations however today they offer apartments/townhouses
