Texarkana is a city in Arkansas, United States. The population was 30,579 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Lamar County. The city is named after Texarkana, Texas, which was then a small town in Baylor County. Texarkana was founded by pioneer farmers and ranchers from nearby Wichita Falls in 1907. At its peak in the 1930s it had a population of 509 residents; however, during World War II it lost most of its population to military service and relocation to urban areas across the country. After the war, Texarkana regained some of itslost population with expansions into housing developments such as White Sands Downs and Cedar Park on the north side of town and into other rural areas around Interstate 40 on the south side. The late 20th century saw continuing expansion as new businesses emerged along I-40: Texarkana Truckstop became one of Arkansas's first major trucking companies while Ark Encounter opened inArkansas' only amusement park (later renamed Discoveryland) in 2001. As these businesses attracted more people and tax dollars to local coffers, Texarkana began to experience significant economic growth over time - reaching an all-time high for employment figures (10,792) during 2009-2010 according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection data In recent years there has been increasing concern about how this growth might impact neighborhoods adjacent to downtown who have borne little or no share of benefits from texarkanas economic juggernaut; however 15% or so of total employment within 1 mile (2 km) radius does not seem overly severe when compared against other large American cities with similar populations that are not completely dependent on services provided by their metropolitan areas Much like many American cities experiencing rapid suburbanization during this period -Texarkana has seen a corresponding increasein development near its downtown core – both homebuilders making large purchases adjacent to City Hall as well as larger developers/developers buying parcels adjacent to I-40 for later use as industrial space or light commercial properties . These changes have led some communities along I- 40 corridor – primarily those located immediately east or west of downtown –to allege that they have felt left out since much newer neighborhoods have come online while older ones languish without any real development progress being made; feeling that their voice has been largely unheard

Texarkana is a small town in northwest Arkansas, United States. The population was 2,077 at the 2010 census. It lies in the northeastern corner of the state on the Raccoon River. The town takes its name from Texarkana, Texas, which was then part of Mexico and became an American territory after the Mexican-American War. The first settler in Texarkana was James Bowers who arrived in 1875. He founded a log cabin on what is now US Hwy 64 near today's Texarkana High School.In 1902, William Fenton bought land east of Texarkana and built a house (now known as Fenton Hall) that served as both community center and courthouse until it burned down in 1954.Fenton's son Winthrop Fenton later purchased the building and moved it to its current location next to present day Texarkana Stadium on US Hwy 64. In 1907, Jno Easley opened his store at Ninth Street & College Avenue which evolved into what is now Hansen’s Almay Store downtown today.In 1916 Wm Dorman established Dorman’s grocery store at Sixth Street & Louisiana Avenue just south of modern day Texarkana High School; this store operated until 1984 when it closed due to economic difficulties. Sam Houston State University began conducting classes in 1918 on Academy Boulevard across from present day Texarkanasouth high school before moving to their present location on I-30 north of town in 1951Brigadier General Harry Sibley Coolidge administered military services here beginning with training exercises conducted by Third Infantry Division Headquarters during World War I until they relocated 30 miles northeast to Fort Smith starting in 1922At one time there were over seventy businesses operating within reach of town limits including twenty-four restaurants/cafeterias/bars/motels/gas stations; however most have since closed or been converted into housing units or other commercial uses.- In 1927Texarkana had its own radio station WWVZ which aired programming from CBS Radio Network.- The first hotel built within close proximity to town was Hotel Grand Ole Opryland located directly across from where Hansen’s Almay Store sits today.- On October 20, 1947 Major General Orville Cushing Commanding Seventh Army Field Forces set up a command post for operations required duringOperation Little Big Horn along US Highway 62 between Arkadelphia and Overton Mountain On January 24th, 1951 local citizens gathered together spontaneously following reports that unidentified flying objects were seen hovering over their homes shortly after midnight CST resulting in subsequent hysteria throughout much of Northwest Arkansas leading up to nationwide UFO sightings that summer
