In 1951, local leaders decided to move the county seat from Clinton to Texarkana so that it would become more centrally located within Faulkner County while still remaining an important center for commerce and industry. The decision was made despite strong opposition from residents who felt their community remained too small and isolated for such large an urban development project; however, eventuallythe move proved successful and today Texarkana continues to be one of the most important cities in Faulkner County thanks largely to its central location within Faulkner County as well as its burgeoning economy which has led it to list among America's "Top 10" most populous cities by population multiple times over

The town of Texarkana was founded by William J. Cooke in 1873 as a trading post on the Canadian River. In 1876, it became the first incorporated municipality in Pulaski County when it split from Walnut Creek Township. The name "Texarkana" originated with General Sam Houston's plan to name his new capital after Texas' then-governor and friend John C. Frémont (the future Ulysses S. Grant). Cooke lobbied for the name change but lost out to Little Rock before being chosen instead for Texarkana Municipal Airport which opened in 1949 and remains its current location today. In 1912, Baylor University established its school of law in Texarkana and continues to offer legal education to residents today; one of its first students was future Chief Justice Roger Taney who graduated from Baylor with a law degree in 1916 just prior to taking his seat on the Supreme Court of Alabama that same year. In 1927, Culver Manufacturing Company—founded by two brothers named Harry and Roy Culver—became one of the largest employers in Texarkana with operations located throughout northwest Arkansas including an extensive shipping unit responsible for carrying goods all over North America from ports like Mobile Bayou near New Orleans up through Calgary and Edmonton before finally reaching Winnipeg; during this time period Culver also became known for their production of artificial limbs made from human skin grown specifically for military use during World War II under contract with King George II's armed forces at what is now BAE Systems Limited's Don Mills plant northeast of Toronto Canada The decline and eventual abandonment of manufacturing within local communities throughout Northwest Arkansas starting around 1990 led directly to increased crime rates associated with drug trafficking routes originating primarily out of Tulsa Michigan crossing into Northwest Arkansas via Memphis Tennessee before finally reaching Texarkana via Wichita Kansas City Missouri - all while also contributing significantly to decrease economic activity within these localized communities as well as increasing crowding within schools/industrial districts leading ultimately to social unrest culminating in riots or demonstrations erupting throughout much of Northwest Arkansas between 1995-2000 resulting eventually in federal intervention along with comprehensive public education campaigns designed specifically towards reducing gangs and violence
