Springdale is a city in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 10,812 at the 2010 census. Springdale was founded in 1881 by businessmen and farmers who bought land from the Cherokee Nation. The city's first mayor was W.A. Battle and it became an incorporated town in 1911. In 1967, Springdale lost its charter because of financial irregularities and it reverted to being an unincorporated community until 1978 when it granted full city status to itself. In 2003, the City Council voted to annex portions of Bentonville which had a population of over 20,000 people but no desire to amalgamate with Springdale. The history of Springdale can be traced back to 1881 when businessmen and farmers set out on a journey eastward from Arkansas City in Indian Territory (now Oklahoma) with the goal of purchasing 640 acres (2 km²) of land from the Cherokee Nation for $5 per acre ($/hectare). When they arrived at their destination, they found that all available land had been purchased by other entrepreneurs, so they began marketing their new plot of land as a spot where anyone could build their own home free from government interference or oversight. This effort failed initially because few people wanted to move away from their comfortable homes in Arkansas City; however, after several months of advertising and presentations by local citizens and business leaders, some residents decided that this offer might have been too good to refuse given the opportunity for them not onlyto live close enough to work but also enjoy some quality public services unavailable anywhere else within miles or even hours’ travel away like streetlights and police patrols. So on April 9th 1881 - more than one hundred years after settlers first came across what would become Springdale - incorporation was granted as “Springdale” Incorporation No.: 007-1881” ( Map ). This early success led another group of businessmen – William Hargrave & Partners – along with Mayor Wm Battle in 1909 for additional space on Main Street which led eventually into what is now Third Avenue NW between Hickory Hill Road NW&NW corner First Avenue NE &NE corner Elm Street SW . After much debate among members about whether or not annexation should be allowed due mainly philosophical grounds such as neighboring Bentonville having already annexed most surrounding communities including Magnolia Springs & Rogers Chapel without any similar outcry or objections – primarily due(ish) to lack of evidence – annexation did finally happen effective January 1st1967 becoming an unincorporated community once again under the jurisdiction and authority of Pulaski County Government through our namesake Pulaski County Commissioners Court #1 chaired by Judge Dolphus Easley who during his tenure leadership saw many major changes including establishment/adoption/expansion/renewal /of our Police Department which currently employs over 100 Officers sworn under your Sheriff’s Office Code #3c057a6
