Springdale is an Arkansan town located in the northern Arkansas county of Pulaski. The population was 7,822 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Little Rock–North Little Rock–Conroe Combined Statistical Area. Springdale is home to Easton College and Baptist Bible College. The first Europeans to visit Springdale were French explorers Jacques Cartier and Samuel de Champlain in 1699 and 1701, respectively. In 1812, John Capps founded a log cabin community near present-day Springdale after surveyors found no land for settlement in that area. In 1820, John Cowdery became the first white man to cross the Arkansas River into this country when he landed on what is now known as Cowdery Point on what is now Springdale Boulevard. That same year, Nathaniel Banks laid out a townsite including parts of present-day Springdale on land that later became Arkadelphia National Grasslands preserve. The post office was established at present-day Springdale in 1824 by Amos Fillmore with assistance from James Richardson of Georgetown County. By 1830, there were 9 residents living in Springdale proper and 9 more scattered around its vicinity: 8 farmers and 1 shoemaker. A school was organized here in 1830 and named for Mr Fillmore’s daughter Sarah (born about 1800). In 1840, Alexander Rankin platted a town site just east of today’s Main Street (now Green Valley Road) which would become home to most of today’s residents; only 4 men lived there at the time: 2 farmers, one blacksmith/driver, Moses Rankin (1804-68), father of Alexander Rankin III (1893-1973), who became Mayor of Springfield Township according to his sworn affidavit filed with the City Clerk – ranking him #2 on that list behind only Abram Sweeny (see photo right). Springdale is a city in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 10,585 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Little Rock–North Little Rock–Bethany Metropolitan Statistical Area. Springdale is named after General George Washington's headquarters during the American Revolution. The town was founded in 1868 by John Smeaton and others as a settlement on the east bank of the Arkansas River northwest of present-day Springdale. In 1871, when a railroad line was built through Pulaski County, Springdale became one of its terminus. The community grew rapidly with new businesses and residences being erected along both banks of the river until it reached its current size by 1930. By that time, trade had diversified to include agricultural products and services; manufacturing including shoe manufactories, tool and die production, printing presses, and radios; and recreation including swimming pools (1930), tennis courts (1920s/30s), basketball courts (1920s), Scout camps (1910s/20s), fishing lakes (1890s/1900s), golf courses (1920/30s), botanical gardens (1870/80s) and an opera house & movie theater complex completed in 1938-39 which served as Springdale's first commercial development. During World War II much of what now makes up downtown Springdale was destroyed by bombing raids from Japan while other parts were used for military sites such as Fort Walton Beach south of town where thousands of U.S soldiers were stationed during said war years before they were replaced by their Japanese equivalents some decades later
The town of Springdale was founded in 1836 by the citizens of Jackson County. The town was named after President James K. Polk, who had been elected in 1835 and helped to create the Arkansas Territory. The town grew quickly and soon became a major stop on the road between Little Rock and Fort Smith. In 1851, Springdale incorporated as a city and began to grow even more rapidly. By 1870, Springdale had become one of the most important cities in Arkansas.
