Springdale, Arkansas is a small town located in the Ouachita Mountains of northwest Arkansas. The population was 9,670 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Little Rock–Fort Smith, AR-2 congressional district. The town was founded in 1892 by farmers who moved from nearby Pine Bluff. They named their new community after Springdale, England where they had been living while attending Immanuel College. The original Post Office was established in 1898 and served an area including present-day Springdale and parts of Beech Grove and Rogers Mills. In the early 1900s, Springdale began to attract vacationers because it was close to White Sands National Monument (now New Mexico State University). In 1906, a school called Webster School opened in what is now North Main Street. That same year also saw the establishment of Stagecoach service station on South Main Street. This stop helped start springtime traffic along what is now Business Loop I-15 south of town before becoming a business district called Elmwood Avenue when that roadway was built between 1922 and 1925 In 1914, Springdale became an incorporated village with a mayor/council system; however, this structure did not survive into the 21st century . In 1926 – 1927, construction began on what would become Present-day Elmwood Avenue which runs through central Springdale between Business Loop I-15 north and south and University Boulevard east to west . The first store on Elmwood avenue opened on October 1st 1927 under the name "The Hometown Store". By 1931 there were twenty stores in operation with an average weekly sales volume totaling $534 . By 1935 there were thirty five stores with an average weekly sales volume totaling $1 million . In 1957 – 1958 discovery occurred during processing of some uranium minerals near present day Springdal

In 1951 the school district merged with the adjacent city of Hot Springs to form a single school district withSpringdale as its largest student body.
