That year, Springdale had a population of only twenty-five people. The first school in Springdale was built on Main Street in 1867. In 1870, the town became part of Little Rock and lost its status as an incorporated village until 1902 when it regained its status as a city under the name ofSpringdale. In 1904, the Arkansas General Assembly passed an act providing for a municipal corporation to be formed within Pulaski County with same powers and authority as those exercised by individual municipalities within that county. The corporate form of government was adopted and City Hall replaced the original one-room schoolhouse located near downtown which served as our municipal hall until 1914 when it burned down and was replaced by our current building which also serves as our city hall today. During World War II (1939-1945), Springdale served as an airfield for DuPont's Blue Water plant manufacturing munitions in addition to housing troops barracks during training exercises off of I-40 east of town while other nearby communities were destroyed or bombarded during that war including Little Rock which saw more than eighty percent destruction with over two million citizens living within its boundaries!
