Springdale, Arkansas is a town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 3,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Little Rock–Fort Smith Metropolitan Statistical Area. Springdale is located on the Arkansas River and has a total area of 20 square miles (60 km2). The first residents of Springdale were farmers who arrived from Illinois in the mid-19th century. They built homes around what is now downtown Springdale and developed agriculture as their mainstay. The post office was established in 1881, and by 1907 it had become an important stop on the state road network. A railroad station was built adjacent to what is now Main Street in 1909; it became known as " SPRINGDALE " because of its location nearsprings which flow into the Arkansas River east of town. A brick courthouse replaced the original building in 1912; it served as court house until 1938 when a new courthouse was constructed on Park Circle next to South High School. The discovery of oil in 1931 led to increased development around Springdale; construction began on a refinery and other related industries soon after. TheArkansas Highway Commission was created in 1934 to provide improved access to education, business opportunities, and health care for those living within its jurisdiction; it remains an important part of today's community life. In 1957 Sprinkle Elementary School opened adjacent to West Side Baptist Church which had been serving students from kindergarten through 8th grade since 1922 when Reverend James Sprinkle sold his interest in that church for $10,000 USD to build a school for local children with no public funds available at that time (the present day Sprinkle Elementary School building dates back to 1951). In 1966 nearby North Central High School opened after years of planning by teachers and parents who saw potential there due to its location across from Sprinkle Elementary School between two large shopping malls then being developed nearby - one housing Sears & Roebuck stores while another was under construction housing JBL Radio & Television stores - making Springdale one of only two towns west of Little Rock having both schools open at once! SPRINGDALE SCHOOL DISTRICT #2 BEGAN OPERATING IN OCTOBER OF 1966! In 1984 Hennepin Avenue Baptist Church moved from its original location just southwest of Sprinkle Elementary School (just east off I-15) across Hennepin Avenue NE into what is currently Springdale's Old Commercial District (Elliott Builders Mall), becoming home forSprinkle Jr./Sr.,HENNEPIN AVENUE BATTERY COVE LOCATED ON LEVEL 2 OF ELLIOTT BUILDERS MALL - A CLASSIC FUTURE LOCATION FOR CATHOLIC SERVICES . . . Battle and his family from Tennessee as an agricultural settlement on the east bank of the Arkansas River.
