Springdale is a town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 1,845 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Little Rock–Jefferson City, Arkansas Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to visit what is now Springdale were French traders in 1679. They named it La Ville de la Rose because of a rosebush that grew near the town's courthouse. A post office was established at Springdale in 1827, and mail service began between Springfield and Memphis that year. In 1830, Isaac Swinson organized a farmers' cooperative known as the "Arkansas Rice Growers Association." The first election for president of Arkansas was held in Springdale on November 4th (1830), with James Kempton winning by only one vote over incumbent Aaron Burr; future President James Kempton Sr., born January 12th (1785) also lived in Springdale at this time In 1836, Cattlemen Jack Moulton and Solomon Young purchased 8 miles (13 km) east of where Hwy 716 crosses Red River at present-day Higgins Road from General Philemon Bemis; they name their new range "Old Hwy 716," which still exists today adjacent to FM 1522 just south of downtown Winfield Springs According to oral history developed by local historian Don Griggs about early residents of Green Hills area thereabouts: “When Old Hickory burned down Ira Woodruff must have been out around Town trying not to get caught up with things because he never came back until after it happened” So when White Sands started up again thereabouts you could say old Iras probably did some good business seeing as how he kept all that land behind him before it ever got sold off again cuz we would know he didn’t burn anything down! So if you ask me what Abe Walls did for fun I can tell you but I ain’t going to tell yall about it cuz if yall get mad about nothing then its your own damn fault anyway so just stop asking me questions now!” Another account says: “Moses [Fowler] said take care not to step on any snakes while we are building our cabin because they might turn into serpents when they see us coming so we placed small rocks around outside doorways & windows so no one would trip over them while walking inside” When Moulton died young his widow Nancy married George Pryor within days following her husband's death leavingspringdale with 3 wives total...So Abe [Walls] probably helped mose build his house cause thats what friends do for each other right? kinda like family does nowadays doncha think?
