At first, they farmed land near what is now the city of Little Rock. However, soon after their arrival, the Forrests began to develop a cattle ranch in northwest Arkansas. In 1881, they moved their ranch to what is now Springdale and named it for themselves. Springdale became a city in 1907 and was incorporated as a town on November 2 of that year. It remained an unincorporated community until 1964 when it joined the City of Little Rock as part of its annexation into that city.
