Springdale is home to one of the oldest ammunition manufacturing plants in the United States. The plant was established in 1892 by F.W. Hogg and his son, George W. Hogg. It became a staple of American arms production until it closed in 1984. History at the ammunition plant includes manufacturing rounds for rifle, pistol, shotgun, and machinegun; as well as shell cases and projectiles for cannon use. Ammunition products have been used throughout history to support military engagements both in present-day America and abroad. The first firearms that were made in Arkansas were rifles and pistols created by early settlers there. Ammunition production began with percussion shot fired from muzzleloaders into various calibers including musket, rifle, shotguns, handguns, cannons etc., all of which were used during the Mexican-American War (1846-48). Springdale’s role as an ammo producer didn’t stop there however; over time it became known for producing high quality rounds for use with rifles such as the Winchester Model 1875 Rifle and Colt revolver models – not to mention artillery pieces like cannons and mortars! Springdale is a small town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 3,878 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Little Rock–North Little Rock–based Metropolitan Statistical Area. Springdale is located on State Route 165 and is bordered by Arkadelphia to the east, Euless to the north, and White Sands Lake to the west. The town was founded in 1881 by settlers from Illinois. The first store opened in 1883. Springdale's current boundaries were created in 1907 when Arkadelphia became a municipality and its eastern border was moved southward to include part of Springdale's original land grant from President James K. Polk. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , all of it land. As of the census of 2000, there were 4,043 people residing in the town Norfolk Sq., which included most of what now makes up Springdale proper; only about 1/4 mile (0 kilometer) south of that lies Arkadelphia proper and its enlarged city limits; as well as about 2/3 mile (1 kilometer) east-northeast of Interstate 25W between those two cities; and less than onequarter mile (0 kilometer) northwest of US 65 between Norfolk Sq.–Arkadelphia Rd./US 95W & I-25W). As any resident or visitor knows full well within minutes walking or biking through these neighborhoods: outside your front door stands an asphalt parking lot housing just over 100 cars (!), while just beyond that vast industrial park lie more homes than businesses – including not one but TWO grocery stores! From this tiny corner you can see towering mountains behind both Arkadelphia Proper’s downtown skyscraper skyline – visible even when looking straight down onto Old Main Street today! Just look around into any other section near Norfolk Square these days (& especially anywhere east off main street), though much denser development has taken place since then generally without so much public protestant opposition taking place right alongside new subdivisions being built for “non-residents” (!); yet with each passing day something rather incongruous becomes imaginable if not downright surreal givenSpringdale’s long history: In short: Everything within easy view today once stood here long ago quite apart from what we currently see . . . complete with extant architecture from yesteryear still standing inside buildings remaining largely unaltered throughout all this recent construction!
