Siloam Springs is a town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 2,023 at the 2010 census. It was named for Siloam SPRINGS, a small stream that ran through the community. The first settlers in what is now Siloam Springs were white men who purchased land from the Osage Nation on October 15, 1819. The men named their new settlement "Springs" after Springs Creek which they discovered near present-day Siloam Springs. The first post office was established in 1824 and became known as "Springfield". In 1872, when Arkansas Territory was organized, Springfield became the capital of the new territory. In 1923, it merged with neighboring Johnson City to form the current city of Siloam Springs. One of the most important events in town's history occurred on July 4th 1916 when World War I veteran George Hoadly dedicated a monument to honor all those who had served on April 14th 1915 during World War I at Springdale Cemetery east of town limits. More than 100 people attended this event including many local mayors and sheriffs along with representatives from other parts of Pulaski County as well as from Little Rock and Arkadelphia.
The first settler in Siloam Springs, Arkansas was John W. Fuller in 1827. The town was founded by Methodists and eventually became a Methodist church town. In the early 20th century, the town had a population of around 1,500 people. After World War II, the population decreased as many refugees from wars in Europe moved to Siloam Springs. By the late 1960s, Siloam Springs had a population of about 3500 people and it did not increase until after the 1980 census when it hit its current level of over 6000 people.
