Siloam Springs, Arkansas is a town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 1,846 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Little Rock–Fayetteville–Montgomery Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "Siloam Springs" comes from a pond where people would gather to cook their meals and listen to music during the late 1800s and early 1900s. The town was founded in 1887 by John Sullivant and others as a result of an agreement between him and Major General James Longstreet. The original town plat showed six buildings: a blacksmith shop, bakery, hotel, store, post office and schoolhouse. In 1888 Siloam Springs had one grocery store and two churches; it also had one white settler and twelve African Americans. In 1893 Siloam SPRings had four churches including Methodism with services conducted at three different locations: First Baptist Church (founded in 1892), Second Baptist Church (1893), Methodist Episcopal Zion Chapel (1894) and Third Presbyterian Church (1896). In 1896 there were also two stores: the Hennepin Drug Store on Main Street near Water Supply Road which became known as the "Queen's Hotel" due to its royal treatment by city authorities; and J & W Smith's Store on State Route 44 about two miles east of town on what is now White Sands Boulevard. By 1907 there were nine businesses in Siloam Springs with ninety-six residents plus ninety-four boarders who lived in fourteen houses divided among fifteen families. The first post office opened in 1902 with George Cone as Postmaster General; it closed in 1904 because of lack of mail service from Fayetteville so Siloam SPRings became an unincorporated community once again until it reemerged as a town only after Fayetteville withdrew its support for the community in 1909 based upon siloing water supplies that year within its boundaries
