Siloam Springs is a small town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 511 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Little Rock–North Little Rock–South Little Rock, AR-12 Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Siloam Springs post office was established in 1872 and closed in 1960. In 1892, William P. White built a cabin on the banks of the Arkansas River southeast of Siloam Springs. He named his cabin "White's Cabin" after himself and his wife Sarah White (1849-1929). In 1902, J.C. Bowers founded a flour mill in Siloam Springs and named it Bowers & Company flour mill after himself and his brother Jens C. Bowers (1868-1945). In 1912, Humble Oil & Gas Company leased land east of town from Jens C. Bowers to build an oil well; this became known as the Humble Oil Well Field (later Anaconda Petroleum Corporation). In 1926, George Karger purchased some land northeast of town from Jens C .Bowers for $1 million dollars; this became known as the Karger Ranchsite (). It wasn't until 1959 that the name change to "Siloam Springs" when residents voted to change their city charter to reflect their new name vote! Governor Orval Faubus vetoed legislation that would have renamed the city "Little Rock", noting that he did not want any City Name changes being made without voter approval which could potentially disrupt services such as water and sewer services within the city limits! Today, over 50 years later since its establishment as a small town in Pulaski County in Arkansas Ku Klux Klan members had started gathering there starting back around 1915 eventually leading up to lynching accusations against African Americans living there including one man killed by white farmers who thought he was sheltering black blacks Confederate Generals ordered him shot!
