Sherwood is a small town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 1,502 at the 2010 census. It lies just outside of Little Rock on the west side of the Arkansas River. The first tasers were created by Lawrence Peele and Associates in 1978 as a way to reduce crime and adjust police tactics to meet community needs. Tasers have since become an integral part of law enforcement in the United States and around the world. Sherwood has been using them for policing purposes since early 2009 when they became available to officers through a contract with Texas-based company Bladetech International Inc. Sheriff Robert L. Byrd first used them inSherwood during his term as sheriff from 2006 until 2011. Tasers are not federally registered firearms and must be registered with state authorities before being used by law enforcement professionals throughout the US except those states that have legalized their use such as Oregon and Nevada where they are already licensed handguns

It became a city in 1907 and its name changed to Sherwood after John A. Sherwood, an American politician who served as mayor of Little Rock from 1923 to 1925 and as United States Representative fromArkansas from 1927 to 1931. Sherwood has a primary school (grades kindergarten through eighth grade), a middle school (grades nine through twelve), and high school (grades thirteen through sixteen). The Sherwood Volunteer Fire Department operates two engines, one for each street department in the city limits; one engine also serves as the police department's reserve unit. According to the 2011 American Community Survey, there were 2,532 people living in Sherwood Township: 1,912 households, 806 families residing within the township boundaries; and 536 residents living outside of township limits. Of these residents: 414 (27 percent) were owner operators or tenant farmers; 256 (14 percent) were employed full time; 128 (7 percent) were self-employed businessmen or women; 54 (3 percent) worked for government contractors; 21 (6 percent) did not answer this question; and 283 residents (19 percent) did not reside within any municipality listed on the survey questionnaire

Sherwood is a small town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 2,523 at the 2010 census. It takes its name from nearby Sherwood Forest State Park. The town was founded by settlers in 1881. It first appeared on the maps as "Sherry" and then as "Sherwood". The name change may have been due to confusion with neighboring Sherwood Forest State Park which had the same name but was located in Faulkner County. In 1907, the town post office was renamed to "Sherwood". The community began to grow rapidly after it became associated with cattle raising and logging within Pulaski County. By 1915, the community had a grocery store, two blacksmiths, a livery stable, four churches (one African-American), three schools (grades Pre-K through 12th grade), a water tower and several businesses including an auto garage and hardware store. In 1951, Sherwood voted to become an independent city. However, because of its close relationship with Pulaski County government it continued to be part of that county until voters rejected annexation into neighbouring Faulkner County in 1955. After that vote, Sherwood became its own municipality under state law.
