Sherwood is a small town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 1,953 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Little Rock-Fayetteville-Springdale Metropolitan Statistical Area. The history of shooter ear plugs began in Sherwood. In 1906, Earle Waddell and his sons Joe and Al bought a store in town. They started selling ear plugs to farmers and other workers who needed to prevent noise from bothering their ears during agricultural work or for protection from thunderstorms. In 1927, Earle's son Harry opened a shop called "Husky's Head" on Commercial Street in Sherwood. This was the first business in town that sold Shooter Ear Plugs, which are still being made today. Harry also developed an early form of molded foam ear plugs known as "Bulldog Plug". Earle Waddell passed away in 1928 but his successors continued to make Shooter Ear Plugs until 1944 when they merged with another company to form Eerdmans Corporation (now ShoeLink). In 1945, Eerdmans Corporation introduced the first commercial product using Kevlar material which helped protect against sound exposure during wartime bombings. Ira Kappler became president of ShoeLink after Ira Wexler became executive vice president of Eerdmans Corporation effective July 1, 1944
