Sherwood is a small town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 1,571 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Little Rock–North Little Rock–Arkansas City, AR Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was named for General James Sherman (1819-1893), who served in the Union Army during the American Civil War and then as governor of Arkansas. The first settler in Sherwood was John Bledsoe, who arrived in 1875. Others to follow were A.B. McKenzie and his son Wm., both farmers; Elisha Hanks and his wife Praedilla Hanks; Nellie Ladd; Fannie Kittrell; Addie Woodruff; J.D.—John Dillard—David Dillard (the father of Elvis Presley); and Willis Huffman (the brother of William Huffman). In 1903, a post office called "Sherwood" was established at a location about west of present day Sherwood on U.S Route 71 near what is now known as Pryor Road. The name has been changed several times since then, most notably to "Sherwood Lake". In 1959 it again reverted to its original name: Sherwood post office. According to the 2000 census, there are 1,568 people living in Sherwood village proper and 2 widows or divorced women residing with their children under 18 years old who also attend school within the village limits each day - an average of 5 residents per household daily! There are no businesses located within village boundaries other than convenience stores/grocery stores that sell goods bought from outside the village limits by villagers or customers transported into or through town by township bus lines which stop right next door to all 3 convenience store locations servingSherwood Village Limits - providing convenient shopping for all! All 3 convenience store operators have been owner-operated for over 25 years! In recent years there has been an increase in auto sales & services located just east of First Street off State Highway 4 between US Highway 271 & Arkadelphia Avenue being offered by Auto Sales Plus which started out as Dave's Discount Salesaurant but became more complete including new sections such as Service Dept., Manufacturer Parts Department& finally delivery after hours service running 24/7

Sherwood was founded in 1907 by J.D. Sherwood and his wife, Lillie. The town grew rapidly due to its location at the intersection of two major routes: the Arkansas Railroad and the Santa Fe Railway. By 1920, Sherwood had a population of over 1,500 people. In 1922, Sheriff J.D. Sherwood was elected vice president of the Arkansas State Senate and served for four terms (1922-30; 1932-38). During this time he helped to create many of the state's early laws and contributed much to developing Arkansan society. In 1938, after serving six terms as governor of Arkansas (1938-46), J.D.Sherwood died suddenly at age 70 years old from a heart attack while on vacation in Mexico City. His widow continued to serve as Governor until she was succeeded by her son John Dillard Sherwood in 1948. In 1950, John Dillard Sherwood resigned effective date due to term limits set forth by the Arkansas Constitution at that time which limited governors' service to three years consecutive terms (the current constitutionality of this rule has not been tested since 1978).
