From the early 20th century until the present day, gun magazines have been an important part of American society. Articles and photos from these magazines exist in various forms and sizes, making them a valuable source for researchers in any field interested in firearms history. Sherwood Rifle & Pistol Club's first magazine was published in 1903. The club rented a printing press from the local paper mill and produced its own issues starting in 1904. The club also purchased subscriptions to other publications, such as "The Rifleman" and "The Pistolero". In 1907, Sherwood established itself as a city-owned armory with funding from Mayor Hatton Pollock. In 1911, the club began producing rifle ammunition using new technology developed by Dr. John Sutter at his San Francisco Ammunition Plant. This new ammunition was quickly becoming popular among shooters around America. In 1915, Sherwood joined the National Firearms Association (NFA) as one of its charter members. As part of this affiliation, the club produced NRA periodicals such as "National Vanguard" and "American Rifleman". According to historian Melvin Ladd Jr., many NFA events were held at Sherwood Armory throughout World War I including demonstrations of rifles and artillery pieces used on the battlefields of Europe. On October 10, 1918 - two days after President Woodrow Wilson announced that America would enter World War I - President James Averell created a special commission to study firearms regulations which included representatives from both groups - NRA Executive Director Charles Epperson and Sheriff Joe Lewis - who had jurisdiction over arsenals within their respective counties in Illinois . This commission tasked with developing Regulations For The Regulation And Use Of Firearm Parts was chaired by Major General Hugh Jordsen (USA). After much debate within both organizations, NRA Executive Director Charles Epperson submitted finalized regulations for national circulation on November 3rd 1919 which became effective on January 1st 1920 . These regulations set forth rigorous rules governing how firearms must be manufactured and distributed; they also banned handguns except those made for military use or under specific regulatory requirements such as beingicked or cut open to fire without injury

It is part of the Little Rock–North Little Rock-Westville, AR Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in what would become Sherwood was James Fenton who arrived on July 3, 1871. The community was named after John Sutherlands Sherwood (1819-1892), an English gentleman who had come to Arkansas as a trader and developed a ranch near Pine Bluff. In 1872 Fenton's son John A. Fenton organized the first school in what would become Sherwood and served as its first superintendent. In 1912 DeWitt Clinton ran for President of the United States and won with 68% of the vote in Pulaski County; he became the first U.S. president from Arkansas since Reconstruction years ended slavery there in 1865. His victory helped stimulate economic development in the area which eventually led to Sherwoods becoming one of Pulaski Countys most prosperous towns during that time period During World War II many local businesses produced munitions for both sides of the war including aluminum cans and batteries for airplanes and artillery pieces respectively Sherwoods also experienced some high profile events such as when on February 17th 1960 local media reported that then Vice President Richard M Nixon had been shot by Lee Harvey Oswald while they were sitting inside his presidential motorcade; however no charges were ever brought against Nixon or anyone else involved in that incident
