By 1910, the population of Sherwood had reached 1,500 people and it became one of the most important towns on the river. The town's prosperity continued into the 1920s, thanks to its position on the banks of the Arkansas River. However, during World War II, Sherwood began to experience significant decline as a result of its proximity to Germany and Japan. In 1945, however, local businesses resumed their former success and by 1950, Sherwood had regained its previous level of economic development. Today,Sherwood is home to a number of notable residents such as businessman George Wirtz and historian Dr. Don Seibert.

On November 12 of that year,Sherwood organized as a city and became one of the original cities in Pulaski County, Arkansas.
