Sherwood, Arkansas is a small town located in the Ozark Mountain foothills of southern Arkansas. The town was founded by settlers in 1881 and has been settled since before that time. Sherwood is home to one of the last remaining gun shops in the United States, Wernher Gun & Rifle Shop, which operated from 1898 until it closed its doors in 1984. The shop was a significant force in handgun and rifle retailing in Sherwood for over eighty years. In addition to its role as a local landmark, Wernher Gun & Rifle Shop also served as an important repository of firearm history and lore within the community. The first firearms manufactured in Sherwood were rifles and shotguns made by John Pritchard and Solomon Woodruff. One of the most notable shooters in the town’s history was Jack Dempsey, who used Wernher Gun & Rifle Shop guns to win three world championships at welterweight MMA matches between 1951 and 1954. In addition to its role as an important local landmark, Wernher Gun & Rifle Shop also served as an important repository of firearm history and lore within the community. Wernher Gun & Rifle Shop opened on November 3rd, 1898 with two shotguns: a 12-gauge shotgun model H-14 that had been donated by Isaac Howe (the founder of Howe Firearms) and a 10-gauge pump action shotgun model PPK-11 that was donated by Elisha Thornton (the son of pioneer scout Amos Thornton). The shop continued business until 1984 when it closed its doors due to economic difficulties. It is interesting to note that both models were manufactured by Nesson Firearms Corporation – one of America’s leading firearms manufacturers at the time – making them some of America’s earliest handguns ever made. Over eighty years later, WernherGun&RifleShop still remains an iconic part of Sherwood culture with many residents fondly recalling their experiences at the store during their childhoods or adolescence. Sherwood, Arkansas is a small town located in Pulaski County, Arkansas. The population was 3,541 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Little Rock–North Little Rock–Easton, AR Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Sherwood community was organized in 1881 and named for General James A. Sherwood, who had served as military governor of Arkansas from 1880 to 1883. The first post office in Sherwood was established in 1886. The community began to develop rapidly after it was selected as the site for the new Fayetteville Military Academy in 1888. After that school's opening, many students and faculty moved to Sherwood from nearby Fayetteville. In 1893, the village had a railroad station and two stores. In 1900, a large percent of the population of Pulaski County were farmers with only 2% being employed in manufacturing or service industries. Most residents engaged mainly in agriculture while some worked within the larger rural communities around them; trade and industry did not play an important role until after World War II when local demand for goods produced by war-related industries grew significantly. A number of businesses were opened throughout this time including a general store (1898), bakery (1901), wagon shop (1902), Hardware Store (1903), Telephone Company (1904), restaurant (1905), post office (1906) and physician's office ( 1907). By 1910 there were nine churches and sixteen schools serving a population of 3,851 people living on 640 acres of land comprising what is now southeastern Pulaski County only about one third of which still exists today as residential neighborhoods known collectively as "The Village". The growth rate slowed during World War I due to restrictions placed on munitions production; however by 1919 over 60% of all housing units had been built with most homes erected between 1915-1920s following increased agricultural production opportunities brought about by international tensions leading up to World War I; these developments continue into present day with nearly all homes erected since then outside Pulaski County limits although some have been physically located within its limits both historically and currently due to demographic changes within its boundaries resulting from suburbanization trends across much smaller counties during this time period especially since Interstate 40 bypassed town limits entirely eastward through Little Rock making it difficult or impossible for residents formerly located within “city limits” either politically or economically to commute into larger metropolitan areas outside their towns unless they resided inside Interstate 40/Little Rock city boundaries which often became increasingly gridlocked during this era thanks largely to freeway construction projects rather than any increase in public transportation options available other than private buses providing limited routes connecting even heavily populated areas outside cities with less access available outside those cities). Sherwood remains an extremely active commercial center today with several thousand residents commuting into downtown Little Rock each day as well as many services provided by local businesses that continue unchanged or expanded since before Interstate 40 even passed through their towns limit making it easy for everyone regardless age or geographic location when traveling northbound on I-40 from south central Arkansas; again limiting potential traffic congestion problems typical along major interstate corridors during morning hours before weekday commuters fully utilize中央 bus lines running out of larger metropolises upon exiting those metros typically preferring instead smaller independent companies DOT operates out-of-town shuttle services linking larger metropolises closer to their urban cores providing more efficient travel times between those locations)

Today,Sherwood is a sleepy little rural community with few if any amenities available to its citizens.
