The Sherwood rifle & shotgun range was established in 1912 by O.J. Sherman, a local farmer and Marksman. The range became the first gunnery school in Arkansas and it still provides instruction to this day. In 1923, the old adobe building on Pulaski Road was purchased by the sheriffs department and it has been their Operations Center ever since. Sherwood is a town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 1,817 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Little Rock–North Little Rock–Central Arkansas Micropolitan Statistical Area. The town was named after Colonel James Sherwood, an officer in the Union army during the American Civil War who later became a U.S. Representative from Arkansas. A post office called Sherwood was established in 1875, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1903. Residents of Sherwood are known as " Sherwoods". The name comes from both the general's rank (Sherwood Sr.) and because of its location on White River near Fort Smith – then known as Shreveport – which served as a base for Union forces during the war. One of Sherwood's most famous residents is singer Fats Domino, whose father worked at a local cotton gin before moving to Pulaski County to work with his son Fats Jr., also a musician. In addition to music, another notable industry in Sherwood has been professional wrestling; many wrestlers who have performed there include Barry Windham (the first black wrestler to ever headline an arena tour), Rick Rude and Rick Steiner among others.

Sherwood is a town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 2,819 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Little Rock–North Little Rock–Arlington metropolitan area. The name "Sherwood" was derived from the Shawnee word "shirwi". The first settler in Sherwood was Abram J. Cook in 1875. Cooks brother-in-law, John Aiken, also founded the town in 1875. Aiken's son James Fenton took over running the business when his father died in 1899. In 1902, blacksmith and entrepreneur Sam Bass founded the First National Bank of Sherwood with money he had acquired from his previous businesses. The bank became one of Pulaski County's largest banks and remains active to this day. In 1907, white school teacher Lula McCormick opened a school forprimary students on Main Street near present-day State Route 9A (now Interstate 240). McCormick later served as Sherwood's first female mayor and Town Clerk from 1955 to 1959; she was also an early member of the Methodist Church hereabouts. The post office at Sherwood been established on October 12, 1896 by order of Governor Joshua Salyer with Stephen Wickstrom as Postmaster General; it served until November 1st 1908 when it shifted its operations to Little Rock under then Postmaster General Amos Kendall due to statewide telephone monopoly during that time period
