Over subsequent decades, sherWood continued to be an important cultural and political center for Arkansans of all races - both before and after passage of landmark racial laws statewide during Reconstruction era. During World War IISherwood played a major role in providing military supplies to servicemen stationed miles away from their homes across central Arkansas. After hostilities ended 1945Sherwood experienced rapid growth as a result of postwar development initiatives spearheaded by Mayor Harry Freeman Jr.. In fact - Freeman is credited with helping shepherd Sherwood into becoming one of America's most vibrant downtown neighborhoods - complete with new businesses and restaurants dating back to the 1950s!
