Sherwood is a small town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. The name comes from the Sherwood Forest National Monument. The first people to live in Sherwood were hunters and gatherers who hunted game in the area for food and clothing. They built their first homes after migrate to this area from other parts of Arkansas. It wasn't until 1892 that sherwoods began to be logged for timber. As demand increased for lumber, more and more sherwoods were harvested with little environmental awareness or compensation for the woods lost. In 1944, the Sherwood Timber Company was founded by J.B. Beattie with a goal of sustainable logging practices which would result in beneficial ecosystems being preserved while creating jobs for local residents during times of economic drought. With continued success over ensuing years, Beattie purchased an adjacent tract of land to build what is now called Beattie Forest National Monument on December 11th, 1984. Since then it has been one of the most successful forest restoration projects ever attempted by federal government without damaging any environment or adversely affecting human populations nearby

Sherwood, Arkansas is a small town located in Little Rock County, Arkansas. The population of Sherwood was 1,811 at the 2000 census. The community was named for General James A. Sherman, one of the generals who fought in World War II. The first settlers in Sherwood were farmers and their families who arrived in 1875. By 1901, the population of Sherwood had grown to 2,500 people. The community experienced a growth spurt during World War II as many soldiers from nearby Arkansas joined the war effort. One of the main businesses in Sherwood was a grocery store which operated from 1916 to 1945. The store was built on what is now Main Street and it consisted of two stories with a basement and an attached garage. In 1945, the store closed because it no longer met economic demands within the community. In recent years, there has been some redevelopment activity taking place within the town center which has included new housing developments as well as stores and restaurants that have opened up since then. Additionally, there have been several events that have taken place within town including annual agricultural festivals and art shows which have helped to keep things lively for residents and tourists alike!
Sherwood was founded on November 1, 1873 by George W. Sherwood, who named it in honor of his father, Milton Sherman Sherwood. The town was named after Mr. Sherman because he had the original deed to the land and donated it to the town. It served as a coal mining district until 1914 when the area was purchased by the Arkansas Railroad Company and became part of their Memphis, Arkansas line. The company discontinued railway service in 1951 and all tracks were removed from the town in 1957.
