The current site of Searcy was founded in 1868 by businessman and politician James C. Searcy as a small community on the banks of the White River. Searcy was a small, unincorporated community in Grant County, Arkansas, United States. It had a post office from 1892 to 1907. The community was named after Searcy Township, Grant County. The town was population of just over 100 in 1905 when it was platted. It grew rapidly in the early 21st century with the discovery of oil and gas royalties near Searcy. In 2011, Searcy had an estimated population of 2,000 people and is now one of the fastest-growing communities in Arkansas. The local government is made up of a Mayor and three Councilmen who are elected at large. The creation of Searcy took place due to the development of Texaco Oil Field 7 on what is now West Ark Hills Road northeast of town. In 1916, the company leased 1 mile (1 km) east-northeast of town for $8 per acre ($240 per hectare). By 1922,Texaco had developed 6 wells there and leases were issued for an additional 20 acres (10 hectares). On October 15, 1922, President Warren G Harding signed Executive Order No. 12057 which created the Searcy Petroleum Trust and authorized lease sales by state agencies for production from oil fields along Red River west to Marshalltown northwest to White Sands southeast to Pinedale west across Williamson Creek into Rogers County northwest from Truman National Laboratory north to Pinedale south from Oklahoma City et al., except that all rights should be exercised by Texaco until 2021; this order exempted Hunt Oil Co., Inc., founder and first president James Hunt's father-in-law's company which operated under his son Sam Hunt between 1919 and 1933 The trust also acquired mineral rights adjoining Red River eastward as well as land lying southward between Pinedale Creek and Williamson Creek eastward along Red River; these additions increased surface area available for exploration by Texaco Upstream oil operations resulted in $916 million (1982 dollars) being producible during its first fifteen years on the ground
