Lee attacked Union troops stationed at Fort Smith. One shot hit a soldier named John Denton in the shoulder, causing him to fall to the ground and discharge his weapon into the air. Asecond shot struck General Thomas J. Sherman as he rode past the fortification; he was not injured but his horse was killed. The first gun sling used by Texans during their Mexican-American War campaign against Mexico took place on October 15th, 1861 when Confederate Colonel James Boggs opened fire from a mounted rifle on an army of Mexicans estimated at 10,000 men under Mexican General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna near San Angelo. No one was killed or wounded in this initial engagement although two Americans were captured with rifles slung over their shoulders before being marched back to Mexico City where they were tried and executed by military tribunal. Many different types of guns were used during the American Revolution including pistols (firing only muzzle thrust), cannonball pistols (a pistol with a paper clip that could be pulled out of its holster and hurled like a grenade), muskets (rifles firing round balls instead of shots) and artillery pieces such as howitzers and cannons which fired solid rounds rather than bolts or arrows. However, according to2010 US Census data updated as of July 2015 Earvin Jackson Jr., president and CEO of Wal-Mart Stores Inc., announced plans for a $5 billion Walmart store expansion that would include 5500 jobs within Searcy's boundaries; this would bring the city's total employment to 25 thousand residents making it one of Arkansas' "largest" cities by population growth since 2000! According to the National Association for Community Development Research (NACDR), Searcy has experienced "significant[ly] positive changes" over recent years including: increasing access to education and healthcare opportunities; increased job opportunities; an increase in business activity; and an increase inimeiity from its citizenry."

Searcy, Arkansas is a small town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 1,500 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Little Rock–North Little Rock–Central Arkansas metropolitan area. The first permanent white settler in Searcy was Samuel Heinemann, who arrived in 1824. He named his farm "Heinemann." The town began to form as a result of agricultural production and trade that developed around Searcy Creek. In the late 19th century, several businesses and residences grew up around the creek's watercourse: the post office (1893), hardware store (1910), grist mill (1896), and livery stable (1907). In 1912, Searcy residents approved an ordinance establishing a high school for their community; construction began shortly thereafter. The current high school building was erected on land donated by Mrs. Clara Halsey Cook in 1922-23. During World War I, many men from Searcy enlisted in the American Expeditionary Forces; some remain buried there today including Private First Class John Pemberton and Privates Edward Ransom and George Waddell. When World War II began, local farmers offered their services to the war effort; many of these men are also buried there today among other military veterans from Searcy. After World War II ended, much of this agriculture returned to local residents but new manufacturing has continued to thrive in nearby North Little Rock since then with companies such as Cargill Inc., Phelps Dodge Corporation, Archer Daniels Midland Company, Monsanto Company and others having established themselves here over time
In 1881, Searcy was founded by a group of men led by Colonel John C. Searcy. The city had been abandoned by the nearby Post Office in 1868 and many of its citizens had moved to other towns in the area. By 1861, Searcy had a population of only seventy-five people. However, it rapidly grew with the arrival of new settlers and entrepreneurs. In 1886, Searcy became the county seat when a post office was established there. In 1907, the Arkansas Legislature designated Searcy as the state capital; however, this decision was overturned on appeal and eventually returned to Little Rock. In 1935, after several years of debate over whether or not to annex neighboring Paragould into Arkansas, Searcy voted against annexation; however, because Paragould was then under Oklahoma control, it technically became part of Arkansas upon that state's acquisition of that territory.
