Searcy, Arkansas is a small town in the mountainous region of eastern Arkansas. It is located about 30 miles northwest of Little Rock and 10 miles northeast of Fort Smith. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. The first gun protection history in Searcy may date back to 1875 when a group of men from nearby Piney Creek Settlement purchased six shotguns and three pistols from local hardware store owner James Waddell. Rifleman George Reese and shotgunner Willis Henson also bought shotguns that year. By 1897, rifleman Henson had retired from the military and moved to Searcy to open his own Arms & Ammo Store. In 1907, Hiram Deason opened a blacksmith shop in Searcy along with his son-in-law Frank Churchill. The shop continued until it was closed by federal authorities during the 1930s for being used as an arms cache by criminals. In 1934, Hiram Deason's widow donated the business assets including tools, equipment, firearms and ammunition to the Arkansan Historical Museum which continues to operate it today under different ownership (see museum website for more information). Since then many other businesses have been established in Searcy such as: A & M Pizza Place; Ribbit's restaurant; Conway Hardware; Home Depot; Moore's Barbecue Pit; Exxon Mobil Station; Jiffy Lube (now Lowe's), Hunt Brothers Fertilizer Co., photographer Rufus Cowles and others.

The dominant industry continues to be agriculture but there are also several manufacturing plants such as Tyson Foods' chicken factory; Kmart Stores; GEICO Insurance Co.; Boeing Corp.; and Coca-Cola Bottling Company which have been operating since the late 20th century or earlier.
