Searcy is a city in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 1,851 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Pulaski County and part of the Little Rock–North Little Rock–Arlington Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first recorded settler in Searcy was James Hance who arrived in 1822. In 1824, Orville Clements built a log cabin on a bluff overlooking the confluence of the White and Arkansas Rivers. He named his cabin "Clement's Bluff". A post office called Searcy was established in 1828, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1906. In 1885, John Fenton erected a frame house on what is now Main Street. The townspeople built another two houses on nearby land that same year. In 1886-1887, James Gentry organized the first Baptist church in Searcy with 30 memberships. That congregation met at Gentry's house until 1895 when they moved to their current location on Main Street. In 1907, John Ladds platted what is today Searcy Township and named it after himself; he also donated land for its formation. The township included all of present-day Pulaski County except for some areas which were annexed by North Little Rock during the late 1800s as part of that city's growth into an incorporated municipality (see annexations below). According to the 2010 census, Searcy had 1,851 residents; however, this number may be higher because many residents do not have permanent address numbers since they often switch addresses within their home counties or municipalities due to various factors such as job changes or moving away from their childhood home). Of these residents: 921 are male while 711 are female; 568 African American while 107 white; 6 Hispanics (of any race); 191 Asian Pacific Islanders
