Searcy, Arkansas is the seat of Searcy County and it is located in the central region of Pulaski County. The area that includes Searcy was first settled by American Indians in the late 1600s and early 1700s. In 1836, the United States Territory of Arkansas was created from sections of both Pulaski and Randolph Counties. The county seat was moved from Prairie View to Searcy in 1868, when Searcy County was organized.
Searcy is a city in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 3,495 at the 2010 census. It is the largest city in Pulaski County and one of the three cities located within Arkadelphia-the other two being Jonesboro and Rogersville. The name Searcy comes from its founder, Isaac Searcy. Searcy was platted on November 7, 1851 by A.F. White and Wm Folsom as a town to be named for Isaac Searcy who had come west with the Arkansas wagon train in 1846. The first post office was established in Searcy on November 16th, 1851 by Jno Hanks & Co.. It remained in operation until it was discontinued on December 1st, 1865 due to lack of business activity. The first store built in Searcy was the Holt House which opened on July 9th, 1865 inside of what is now known as Main Street and operated under that name until October 2nd when it changed its name to Searcy Mercantile Store & Warehouse which continued operations until January 10th 1886 when it burned down due to an accidental fire! The current building that stands today began as a cooperative grocery store back then also known as The Olive Branch Grocery store before becoming known simply as The Searcy Store after being purchased by Frontenac Mills Incorporated in 1984. In that year they also added their own department store which continues to operate today under the same name! It wasn’t until 1992 when Sears Holdings Corporation merged into Kmart Stores Incorporated that we finally got our own Sears Department Store (now Sears Tower) inside of what is now called Main Street!

The growth of Searcy led to the establishment of a water system in 1922 and an electric power plant in 1925. By 1960 Searcy had become a ghost town with only a few houses remaining. However, over time it has begun to redevelop with businesses such as an ambulance service, funeral home, and grocery store opening up shop here again. Today Searcy is one of the most vibrant communities in Lamar County with many cultural activities happening each year including artistic shows at the local theater or art fairs showcasing local artists.
Searcy, Arkansas was founded on December 21, 1868 when the United States Post Office moved from Little Rock to Searcy. The town was named for General Hugh Searcy who fought in the Mexican-American War and the American Civil War.
