Ammunition history in Searcy, Arkansas began with the development of firearms in the early 1800s. The first firearms were made by settlers in what is now Searcy County, Arkansas. In 1819, a man named George Washington Selfridge started a blacksmith shop in Searcy and began making rifles and pistols. In 1831,Selfridge married Sarah Ladd and together they founded the Ladd Manufacturing Company. The company manufactured handguns and rifles until it closed its doors in 1865. The next major gun manufacturer was Winchester Arms Company which was founded by Robert Winchester in 1892. Winchester became one of America’s leading firearms manufacturers and continue to make ammunition products until their closure in 1968. Other large firearm manufacturers that produced ammunition include Remington Arms Company (founded 1895), Browning Arms Corporation (founded 1901), Savage Arms Corporation (founded 1907), Smith & Wesson Firearms Incorporated ( founded 1915), Colt Industries Ltd.(founded 1903) and Beretta AG (founded 1888). This allowed for increased range and accuracy while reducing recoil and muzzle blast. The development of metallic cartridges also allowed guns to fire more rounds per minute than earlier designs.

Searcy is a small town located in Pulaski County, Arkansas. The population was 2,560 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Little Rock-Fayetteville, AR Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Searcy was George Hargrave, who arrived in 1854. He and his family built a cabin on what is now State Highway 128. A school was established in 1855 and named for Mr. Hargrave’s daughter Emma (Emma) Hargrave: the first female teacher in Searcy Township Schools District #2. In 1856, John Baughman homesteaded on land that now includes much of what is downtown Searcy. In 1865, James Clements settled near the current intersection of Meridian and Ewing streets; he platted what would become Searcy Township and named it for his father James Clements Sr., who had died two years earlier at the age of 47 from typhoid fever contracted while working as a teamster on a mail train between Dallas and Memphis. At this time, Arkansas was split into three counties – Pulaski County, Clay County and Fayette County – each headed by a sheriff/magistrate appointed by the governor with power to levy taxes upon property within its limits; thus each county had its own jailer/justice of the peace responsible for keeping law and order within their respective jurisdictions In 1868, John Pugh founded an sawmill on White River which became one of Searcy’s most important economic engines throughout its history; during this time period sawmills were becoming more prevalent than agricultural mills because they could produce larger logs more quickly using less labor than traditional farming operations Pugh also operated a store on Main Street which served as both business headquarters for Searcy during this early days when there were no post office or telephone services available In 1870-71 Jno Waring conducted an extended survey across much of eastern Arkansas including parts of present day Searcy township; his report detailed such features as graded highways with turnoffs to allow traffic access to alluvial soils underlying townships without having to cross country or negotiate streams Waring also surveyed potential locations for railroad lines through northern Arkansaw including what is now White Settlement village Nursing Home Road south bound just east of present day I-15 exit 17A off Ulysses S Grant Boulevard just north side I-24 exit 2 off US 50 west bound just before mile marker 149 northwest cornerabout 4 miles northeast from modern day Searcy .Waring’s survey led to extensive development along Illinois Avenue (now US 50), White Settlement Rd., Nursing Home Rd., I-15 Exit 17A & Exit 2 & I-24 Exit 2 today known collectively as “The Waring Survey Trail” What eventually became known as northwesternArkansas was developed mainly due to investments made by Jno Waring & various others associated withhis surveys over many years

Searcy, Arkansas is a small town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 1,974 at the 2010 census. The name of the town is taken from Searcy Creek which flows through it. The first settlers to Searcy were George and Sarah Aiken who arrived in 1827. They built a log cabin on what is now Acacias Road. In 1830, they bought 5 acres of land from James Cramer and erected a small cabin called "The Cabin" on what is now State Highway 24. In 1837-38, John Hargrave moved his family to Searcy from Morehead City, Kentucky and started trading goods with local farmers and traders. He built a wood frame house on the present day corner of State Highway 24 and Acacias Road. In 1840-41 he added another two rooms to his house and named it "Hargrave's House". By 1850, John Hargrave had raised 2 children - one daughter named Harriet Elizabeth (1840-1914) married Samuel Butler (1846-1920), who was born in Illinois; the other daughter named Mary Ann (1847-) married Wm Fuller (1858-) who also came to Searcy in 1837-38 as part of the migration of Arkansans westward into Kansas Territory during the antebellum period. 2nd Generation: Samuel Butler (1846-) - Born in Illinois; Married 1865 to Fannie Bowersox; died unmarried in infancy 1910 Fannie Bowersox (1850-) - Born December 12th 1850;; Married November 9th 1863 to Jno Shively; Living 1880 until her death 1932 3rd Generation: Wm Fuller (1858-) - Born February 15th 1860;; Died unmarried 1886
Searcy, Arkansas was founded in 1871 by a group of pioneers who came from Tennessee. The town was named for General Andrew Searcy, who served as the commander of the U.S. Army in the Mexican-American War and helped to win that conflict. Searcy's victory at Buena Vista Inn near present-day Peoria, Illinois made him one of the most famous commanders in American history.
