One of the first businesses in Rogers was a shoe store run by John Meeks which opened on Main Street in 1875. A blacksmith shop opened later that same year also on Main Street. Growth slowed after World War I but resumed during the 1920s with an increase in cotton production due to improved transportation methods such as railroads and highways. During the 1930s growth decreased again as Dust Bowl conditions caused a decline in crop production statewide. However, during World War II an influx of patriotism led to an increase in business activity including munitions factories output which helped spur economic growth once again during the war years when local manufacturing produced items for military use such as planes and tanks
Rogers was founded in 1881 by John Rogers and his wife Sarah. The original home of Rogers is still standing, located on the corner of 19th Street and Arkansas Avenue. The town grew quickly due to its location near the newly built railroads and businesses. By 1907, Rogers had a population of around 500 people. In 1912, John Rogers donated land to the city for a public library. The firstRogers Library opened in 1914.
