Rogers, Arkansas is a small town located in Craig County, Arkansas. The population was 553 at the 2000 census. The community was named for General James Rogers who fought in the Mexican-American War and later served as governor of Arkansas. Rogers was also an early settler in what is now Rogers City. Rogers was founded by Captain John Hargrave and his family on April 7, 1868. Hargrave's brother, George Hargrave, founded the town site on a tract of land that he had purchased from David Dixon. The first post office opened inRogers on November 15, 1868. In 1870, Jno Waddell became the first wagon master to visit Rogers when he traveled through the area looking for new grazing lands for his horses. Waddell brought with him news of good land opportunities in central Arkansas and recommended that settlers come to Rogers to explore these claims. In 1871, Fenton McLaughlin arrived from Ireland with his wife and two children and took up residence near where Hezekiah Drake met him while traveling westbound on US Highway 65 en route to Missouri some years earlier. Drake had been operating a stagecoach stop called "The Ark" along this same route when he ran into McLaughlin near what is now Rogers City about three miles south of present dayRogers city Limits (Dixon Road). After exchanging greetings, Drake offered McLaughlin passage back eastward should he ever find himself stranded among strangers again on the open road - something which would increasingly become a common event around here due to lack of reliable transportation during those early days after statehood! McClaughan's group established their own farmstead at what is now known as Morningside just north of present dayRogers city Limits after purchasing 640 acres (2 km²) around a spring they named "Honeymoon". According to one story told by pioneer Tom Whitehead upon his death in 1984: "Tom Whitehead owned 600 acres [24 hectares] southeast ofMorningside whereupon Colonel A C Smith organized an effort to purchase it all including Honeymoon Spring." Whitehead accompanied Colonel Smith during several trips overland throughout 1895-96 aimed at acquiring title deeds for this properties which totaled nearly 12 square miles (30 ha). Ultimately not successful but demonstrated how important it was for local residents - especially farmers - to have representation outside of any centralized government structure when making decisions about their community's future. As such all transfers or purchases within the original boundaries remain ceremonial today; current citizens can only travel so far intoCraig county before encountering historical landmarks like Honeymoon Spring or Mrs Gertrude McFarlane's home located east off Old Dixon Road . It wasn't until 1981 that racially motivated vandalism against white homes beganovieing certain parts of Rogers Township adjoining black populated areas across Craig county . This type of behavior has continued unabated well into recent times with occasional events erupting here & there particularly during Ramadan Holy Week period After four years serve as postmaster @ ROGERS ARK & term expires Dec 3RD 1907 I am nominated by Gov Craddock Feb 17th 1907 renaming yr FAIRFIELD

The original settlers in what is now Rogers were the Hartsfield-Jackson family. In 1836, General John C. Fremont awarded land to George Rogers Clark for his services as a military leader during the Mexican–American War and for leading an expedition that discovered landmarks on the Arkansas River that would later become Rogers City. Rogers was founded by Captain James W. Stephenson in 1851 as a cattle station on the Red River for Canadian cattle farmers who could not get to Texas because of Native American resistance. By 1865, it had become a city with a post office and two stores. In 1907 it became part of Pulaski County when it was organized from parts of four other counties. In 1914, after World War I ended, the federal government gave away 640 acres (250 hectares) of land to be used as a training ground for war veterans in northwest Arkansas. The property formed Fort Smith Park which still exists today and has been used by West Point Military Academy since 1923. After World War II ended, many businesses closed down inRogers due to lack of economic opportunities following the end of communism across much of Europe; however some businesses such as First National Bank reopened after being acquired by Altria Inc., one of America's largest tobacco companies at that time The population size has fluctuated over time but peaked at around 3,500 residents in 1990 before declining to 2,711 at the 2000 census due to growth elsewhere within Pulaski County or Interstate 30 traffic noise pollution from nearby Arkadelphia which had risen rapidly during this time
The Rogers family arrived in Arkansas from Kentucky in 1837. The family was later renamed the McFarlane family. In 1881, John McFarlane became the first white mayor of Rogersville and held that office for two terms. John McFarlane also served as a justice of the peace and as mayoralty treasurer.
