Pine Bluff, Arkansas is a small town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 5,583 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Little Rock–Fayetteville–North Little Rock Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers in Pine Bluff were James and Elizabeth Aiken who arrived in 1819. They built a log cabin on what is now First Street and Main Street. In 1830, they married Maria Ladd and moved to what is now Second Street and Elm Street. They had six children: James (1830-1892), John (1831-1861), Amanda (1833-1900), Rachel (1835-1912), Martha (? - 1865). In 1845, Isaac Rice settled in Pine Bluff with his family from Tennessee. He built a cabin on what is now Third Street and Elm Avenue. His son Major General Isaac Rice served as the first sheriff of Pulaski County from 1865 until his death in 1902. Other early settlers include Wm Crain who settled on land near present day State University Boulevard in 1869; Hosea Goodloe who established an adobe brewery near Main and Market Streets in 1870; William Pritchard who bought 160 acres of forested land east of town in 1881; Daniel Boone Bryant II bought 1/4 acre of land east of town off Joplin Road in 1889; Hiram Dodge located two miles south of town on US 66 between Clinton Drive and Madison Drive;and Alfred Kinsey lived two blocks north of the current site of Pine Bluff High School before moving to Topeka, Kansas where he developed research into sexual behaviors. After years of development by these pioneers only a few families remained permanently settled when World War II began military service brought many people to Arkansas from all over the country including those from Kentucky, Tennessee, Missouri, Indiana, Ohio etc., among others including women such as Betty Barker who worked for Welch Rubber Company as a laborer during World War I before marrying local rancher Rufus Dillingham ; Revd Dr George Wimblett Episcopal Chaplain for First Baptist Church Women’s Auxiliary founded Holy Cross Missionary Baptist Church which services both sexes since 1927 within walking distance from house where he preached & ministered daily until his death 1945 also within easy driving distance to Forney AFB USAF Base outside Little Rock
