In 1919, Paragould was incorporated as a city with a population of over 100 people. In 1960, the main thoroughfare through town was renamed Ulysses S. Grant Boulevard in honor of General Ulysses S. Grant who served as President of the United States from 1869-1877 and again from 1881-1885. On May 20th of that year (1960), Paragould’s centennial was celebrated with an event honoring all citizens who had made contributions to the community over that time period including teachers, firefighters, policemen, nurses and ministers/church leaders. That same year saw another milestone in town when it became home to its first library which opened on October 1st of that year! In 1971, Coca Cola began production in nearby Fayetteville which caused significant development withinParagoldtown since then including new buildings for both local businesses and Coca Cola’s corporate headquarters until it finally closed down in 1984 after more than 50 years! Today many residents still visit Paragoldtown each day for their morning cupof Joe or afternoon doughnut!
