Paragould is a small town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 1,583 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Little Rock–Fayetteville–Bentonville Micropolitan Statistical Area. formerly called "Pulaski" on account of its location near the center of the state, Paragould was named after Captain James Fisk's aborted expedition from that name in 1821. The present-day town began to form around 1840 when two families bought 160 acres (60 ha) of land east of the Arkansas River and built a log cabin. The first store in Paragould was established by Elisha Goodloe in 1845. By 1860, there were 10 stores and 25 businesses in Paragould with a population of 350 people. A school was constructed north of present day Main Street in 1868 and became operational that year; it served until 1951 when it burned down due to weather damage. The first post office opened in 1865; it closed operations on October 15, 1936 because of financial difficulties caused by World War I and the Great Depression. It reopened on November 6th after being closed for 5 years due to lack of funds but closed again on December 3rd 1935 due to budget cuts which occurred during World War II as well as other economic problems faced by the community during those years According to history books written about Paragould during this time period: "The Original Post Office Building still stands today...and can be visited every day from 8am until 4pm." In 1978 an addition -the Community Center -was added adjacent to Main Street making Paragould one stoplight away fromLittle Rock; however, this building also burned down within a few months while under renovationometime between 1984-1987 also known as "Theoriginalcommunitycenter". It has been reported that $2 million has already been spent repairing buildings associated with Old TownParAGOLD including streetscape improvements such as resurfacing sidewalks and new streetlights since then". A little more than 2 miles (3 km) south along US Highway 70 lies White Sands National Monument which offers visitors many opportunities for activities related to nature including hiking and bird watching; camping is not allowed within visitor areas though permits are available for special events like meetings or weddings held there such as an annual Big Sky competition where participants build telescopes using parts taken from their telescopes confiscated during construction site visits (). The town was founded by English colonists in 1836 as a post office called "Pulaski." The name was changed to "Paragould" in 1881 when the community became an incorporated municipality. In 1907, the town's first school building was built and it served as the initial educational center for Paragould residents until 1958 when North Little Rock School District No. 1 began operating that location. A store and restaurant were opened in Paragoudy in 1923 and have been serving customers since then. A truck stop known as "The Gator" operated along Interstate 40 from 1955 to 1977 before being replaced by a gas station located on West Main Street which remains operational today. In 2003, Paragould voters passed a resolution proposing that the state Legislature annex the town into Little Rock so that it would be closer to its twin city of North Little Rock for economic development purposes; however, this proposal never came to fruition due to budgetary concerns within state government at the time. In recent years, there has been an increase in pot cultivation operations taking place within town limits with somerhaing becoming more difficult due to high levels of humidity and pests common during summer growing seasons; however, no major developments have occurred related thereto since 2009 following passage of local law prohibiting such activity without prior approval from township officials

In 1821, the United States acquired the land from Mexico and incorporated it as part of Texas. The area that is now Arkansas was part of Missouri until 1820, when it was included in Kansas. The territorial legislature approved a bill to admission Arkansas into the Union on July 8, 1912.
