Paragould is a city in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 7,569 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Pulaski County. Paragould was founded in 1881 by the railroad developer and miller George Miles and named for him. The first post office was established in 1882. The city incorporated as a city on February 15, 1912. In 1980, it became a town when the entire Pulaski County area was annexed by Little Rock. The City of Paragould is located adjacent to the Arkansas River on what once were two separate townships: Cimarron and White Sands. On December 5th, 1907, both townships were merged into one municipality with their respective leaders serving as Mayor and Clerk-Treasurer respectively; George Miles being appointed Mayor. At this time White Sands had a population of 1,200 while Cimarron had 496 residents including 100 white slaves who worked for Mr Miles & Son Paper Company’s mines (the Whites). As such it can be said that until 1908 Paragould consisted of 2 different cities with 2 different mayors! According to the 2000 census there are now 9 different ethnic groups living in Paragould which includes 7% African American and less than 1% Native American or Alaskan Native American

Paragould, Arkansas is a small town located in Pulaski County, Arkansas. The population was 2,814 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Little Rock-North Little Rock- Van Buren, AR Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Paragould were French fur traders and missionaries who traveled through the area in 1798. They named the original settlement after Pierre Goudreau, a captain with their expedition. By 1800, there were twenty families living in Paragould. In 1801, a post office was established and by 1812 it had grown to include a stage stop on the Arkansas and Mexico Railway. In 1836, John Sibley founded Sibley & Sons Auctioneers here in Paragould for auctioneering purposes only; he never opened an auction house as his business prospered until 1840 when he moved to Fort Smith (now Arkadelphia).During this time period many businesses were started or expanded within what is now Paragould including J & H Cooks Grocery Store which still exists today and served as one of the few stores open during prohibition; Waddell's Hardware store which also survives; A & P Feeding Company which provided feed for local farmers during prohibition; Eaves Rubber company which manufactured rubber shoes until World War II; Phelps Boot Co.; Silas Hoggs Clothing store operated from 1888-1910 before being closed down due to economic problems; Mrs. L Whitecastle's grocery store built c1892 has been preserved as an historic landmark since that time A post office was established at Paragould on November 12, 1868, but no mail service arrived until 1870 due to political unrest caused by Indian Removal policy of President Ulysses S Grant In 1872–73 two school districts formed--the eastern district School District #2 (later absorbed into the Little Rock School District) and the central district School District #1 (later absorbed into Van Buren School District). On December 15th of that year both school districts amalgamated into one—the present day Pulaski County School System .Paragould became unincorporated when Pulaski County was organized on April 1st 1907 .On May 1st 1907 – when parishes were created –Paraguoldale became part of NorthLittleRock while WestArkadelphia became part of VanBuren After World War I several industries took off such as Alcoa Aluminum plant where aluminum parts were made until 1957 ; Dow Chemical plant built here beginning production of plastics in 1941 ; Bechtel Corporation built their final building here beginning operations in 1961 ; Lockheed Martin Aircraft manufacturing center began production at this site starting in 1958 .
