The city's incorporation came about in 1907 when all but one municipality within Pulaski County were incorporated into the new city limits (the exceptions being Arkadelphia and Murphysboro). In 1911, during World War I, North Little Rock became an important airfield for American forces fighting on both sides of the war. After the war ended, NorthLittleRockbecame an important commercial center for western PulaskiCountyand postwar developmentremained mostly slow until later decades when several major industry expansions took place including trucking and aluminum production. One local legend that persists to this day concerns a small girl who told her father that she had seen two UFOs while playing outside; he believed her and bought her a set of electronic equipment to investigate these phenomena further. The little girl became famous due to this story which has been perpetuated through annual UFO sightings reports filed with NORAD since 1979
Arkansas became a state on January 3, 1836, following the Mexican-American War. The area that would become Arkansas was part of Texas before becoming a territory of Mexico. On November 16, 1839, Texas merges with the Mexican Republic to form what would become Mexico City. On December 6, 1846, the United States acquired Oregon from Spain as part of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. On February 14, 1850, Texas Annexed by the US made Arkansas its new state capital and second most populous city after Dallas.
