Ammunition manufacturers have been producing ammunition for the shooting public in North Little Rock, Arkansas since 1869. The city was first settled by Arkansans who started trading goods with settlers in Texas and Mexico. In 1881, the North Little Rock Arsenal was established to produce artillery rounds and projectiles for local use. Ammunition production continued until World War I when it was discontinued because of shortages caused by the war. In 1925, Armour Manufacturing Company (AMC) began manufacturing shotgun rounds in North Little Rock. At that time, AMC was one of the largest ammunition manufacturers in the United States and produced a wide variety of rounds including black powder shells, rifle shot, pistol bullets and shell casings for shotguns and pistols. The company became inactive in 1984 but is still active as a research center providing Testing & Evaluation Services to Federal Firearms Programs across the country. The most important firearms manufacturer located inNorth Little Rock during its history were Smith & Wesson handguns which began manufacture here in 1875 followed by Colt AR-15 rifles beginning production in 1911. Other prominent manufactures located here during this time include Winchester Repeating Arms Company (Winchester), Browning Arms Corporation (Browning) and Remington Arms Corporation (Remington).

North Little Rock, Arkansas is a city in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 30,719 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Pulaski County. North Little Rock is part of the Memphis metropolitan area and is one of the most ethnically diverse cities in America. The first permanent European settlement in what is now Arkansas was made by French traders working for Spain on the Red River near present-day Bentonville in 1762. Fort Duquesne was built by French fur trappers and missionaries between 1763 and 1767 to protect their fur trade routes from Indian attack. The town of North Little Rock was founded by David Osborn and others on November 3, 1827 as a trading post on the west bank of the Arkansas River opposite modern day Little Rock. The post continued to be used until it was abandoned in 1868 due to competition from more developed towns east of the river. In 1871, General James Hance ordered Major John Ewing to build Fort Smith as a military garrison against Indians who had overrun his department west of Fort Smith during the Apache Wars. To finance this project, Hance collected $5 million from citizens throughout Missouri and Kansas without giving them any say in how it would be used. In order to build Fort Smith, Ewing began construction on what would become one of history's largest engineering feats--the First National Bank Building which still stands today within walking distance of downtown North Little Rock. In 1876–77 Governor George Catlett authorized development along Ulysses S Grant Boulevard which became known as "National Avenue" after President Ulysses S Grant's inauguration parade route through Washington D.C.. Nervous about blockading Memphis with only two streets open for traffic while all other major cities were congested with four or five lanes each, Catlett decided that NorthLittleRock should have its own main drag named after him instead: George Catlett Boulevard
