Mountain Home is a small town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 414 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Little Rock–Fayetteville, AR-CD Combined Statistical Area. The community is named after the mountain home of its founders, George and Wanda Mountain. In 1961, George and Wanda were two of the first people to settle in Mountain Home when it was still a remote outpost on Hwy. 66 near present day Fayetteville. Mountain Home began as a mining camp that developed into a small town during the 1920s when alkaline earth metals were found in abundance in that area. By 1930, most of the miners had left for other parts of Arkansas or Texas because of these new finds and there was only 10 residents living in Mountain Home at that time. However, over time more people came to live here as business opportunities improved and development began around town center which included a movie theater (the Paramount Theatre), several grocery stores/markets (including one called The Gilded Cage), schools (two public schools and one private school), churches (one Baptist and one Methodist) and even an airfield which served as home to both local military units during World War II until it was captured by Japanese forces; later it became part of the United States Army Air Corps Base Bryant Air Force Base before being closed down during peacetime by order from then President Harry Truman due to budget cuts following World War II; however portions remains remain today under control of various property owners within the municipality including Mountain Home's City Council form 1986-present while revenues generated from various municipal services support city government operations without having to be approved by Monty Mayberry who chairs council meetings). Additionally there are several elementary schools affiliated with these schools including Bearden Elementary School (5th through 8th grades), Fountain View Elementary School (9th through 12th grades), Cherokee Heights Elementary School (1st through 5th grades), Highland Park Elementary School (6th through 8th grades), Cloudcroft Elementary School (9th through 12th grade), Broadmoor Intermediate Unit No 2/4 (4-8 year olds) & Mount Carmel Jr./Sr./junior High Schools(grades 9-12)
