The first settlers in Mountain Home were two families from Iowa who came to the area in 1885. They built a log cabin on the south side of Main Street and named it "Mountain Home." In 1907, a post office was established at Mountain Home and mail was carried to North Little Rock until 1942 when the United States Postal Service discontinued service to all rural areas. In 1924, mountain home school District No. 2 organized with a large fieldstone building on Main Street as its core facility providing instruction for grades K-12th grade students from east central Pulaski County as well as adjoining Randolph County districts (including present day Conway). The district became an autonomous unit within School District No. 72 in 1968 and continued offering instructional services through that entity until 2002 when School District No. 72 merged with School District No. 1 to form Pulaski County Schools'. Today's residents are descended from those original pioneers and their descendants have lived in Mountain Home since 1885 or before that date given that many homes were built during this time period without any land grants or deeds being given away by the government - only title deeds were issued after not one but TWO township meetings which took place in late October & November of each year! Many homes remain unoccupied today because they have been sold or rented out; however, there are still numerous historic buildings remaining unimpaired including: the old school building on Main Street (now used as a community center), Mrs.(?) Beasley's grocery store/takeout restaurant on Elm street across from Walmart which operated from 1956-1977 (& remains open), three bars/lounge spaces operated by various businesses over that period viz., Tim's Bar & Grill opened 1959-1967 (closed 1994), Three Sisters Casino Resort opened 1984-1985 (& remains active) & also several residences dating back to prewar days like Judge Butner Place now used as Live Oak Lodge adjacent to golf course (& also functions as a bed and breakfast establishment) etc... In addition, several churches have been located throughout town such as First Baptist Church started operations 1886 north of the high school on US HWY 27 about five miles west of town (now closed); Second Baptist Church started operations 1888 north of US HWY 27 about six miles west of town; Methodist Episcopal Zion church started operation 1912 between US Hwy 71 & FM 571 about 20 miles south-southwest of town; Presbyterian Church starttin operations 1914 just east off IH 45 next door to A&P store; Congregationalist church starttin operation 1916 just east off IH 45 next door to hog farmer feedlot etc... These churches continue ministering today despite having multiple locations due primarily to economical reasons such as proximity to larger cities where services can be obtained either by driving or flying into those larger markets... Additionally, some family farms have long histories even predating World War II such As White Sands Farms established 1917 opposite courthouse; McCoy farm began producing hay 1898 near intersection of Highways 21A & 7W (& still produces hay today)... Today's citizens reside within walking distance both downtown where most stores are open 24 hours per day including walmart, doctor's office, ice cream parlor etc., along with several smaller shops and restaurants including Yum! Brands China Bistro located across street from high school which offers unique Chinese cuisine items not available anywhere else outside China while also featuring live music nightly plus movies every other night during summer months... All told there are over 60 businesses situated within one mile radius making Mountain Home an extremely vibrant community Colors often vary greatly among these businesses with most displaying some sort Of red symbolizing product availability while green indicates no sales occurred during specific window/hour... This vibrant atmosphere has helped contribute significantly towards maintaining VERY low crime rates although occasional minor disturbances do occur periodically due mainlyto people coming into town for short visits rather than staying for extended periods"... During prohibition years much alcohol was produced here including bourbon whiskey famous for its smooth taste but production stopped sometime around 1920 accordings research done by University Of Arkansas Press Specialty Publication entitled "Arkansas Alcoholic Beverage Control Laws 1923-1929" Shortly thereafter local men formed "Regional Alcoholic Beverage Board" club serving themselves only consisting only local intoxicating liquor never selling any other kind In 1933 Valley Forge National Military Park was created within county limits following passage by Congress earmarked for this purpose $1 million had already been appropriated thus funded thru General Appropriations Act 1934 #33 CONGRESS 1st SESSION PART III cosponsored by Representative John Wickersham OF ARKANSAS With respectmnt thereto authorization was granted thru Departmental Order Number 9 dated January 12 1935 To construct Camp Bowie State Park Within said park boundaries thereby creating an official campground accessible thru state highways 61VSt NE & 6WNW campers would then be able to use state roads running parallel thereto w/o ever having TOO much trouble especially if traveling WITH A CARRYING CASE OR PACKAGE

Mountain Home, Arkansas is a small town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. The community was founded in 1881 by Brigham Young and his followers as a Mormon settlement on the east side of the White River. By 1902 it had become an agricultural center because of its location near Black Mesa Dam on the White River. In 1938, Mountain Home became one of only two towns in Pulaski County to be incorporated as a Village. In 1951 it annexed part of Decatur Parish and became one of its first municipalities. In 1978, Mountain Home became an independent City when it annexed portions of Pine Bluff and North Little Rock. That year it also gained city status when it amalgamated with Carbon Hill and South Pittsburgsboro to form the new Pulaski County City Council. The downtown area has been restored and now houses several businesses including The High Line clothing store, which replaced an old post office that closed in 1984; Centennial Bank; First National Bank; Lighthouse Pizza & Pasta; Methodist church (Anglican); Realtors Association Of Little Rock-North Little Rock-Pine Bluff; American Legion Post No 204 & 201A (National Guard unit stationed at nearby Fort Campbell); Mount Hope Baptist Church (Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints) which opened its doors in 1915 as a mission headquarters for Africa before becoming home to the present day pulpit for Mountain Home's Independent Church Services Department; and many other small businesses including Appalachian Trail Florist Shop located inside First National Bank building #5463 Main Street mountain home AR 82002
In 1872, the United States bought land in Mountain Home County, Arkansas from the Creek Nation. The area was named for Mount Horeb, an important mountain in the Israelite Religion. In 1881, the United States built a military post at Mountain Home and named it Fort Smith. The fort was abandoned in 1903 and turned into a small town. The post office closed in 1906 and the town faded away until it was revived in the late 1990s as a tourist destination.
