Mountain Home is a town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 1,824 at the 2010 census. Its name comes from the mountain peak that makes up its namesake. The peak's elevation is 5,540 feet (1,500 m). Mountain Home was established in 1887 as a post office and cattle station by settlers who were coming down the Arkansas River to set new fruit orchard plantations. The first store in Mountain Home was built by John Sutter and his brother-in-law Wm. Haggerty on Main Street in 1890. In 1895 it became the first bank west of Memphis when Jno. Lusk opened a branch there. By 1900, about 100 people lived in Mountain Home and the post office had grown to serve 2,000 customers per day. In 1902 Drury Diggory donated land for a hospital which became known as St Johns Hospital; it now serves as University Medical Center of Pulaski County. A schoolhouse located on this site was used from 1903 until 1959 as an agricultural fairgrounds clubhouse before being purchased by the current owners and moved into their current location in 1984; it currently houses Community Church of God USA headquarters Mountain Home has been home to many businesses over the years including several hotels including Best Western Expressions (1905), Holiday Inn Express (1996), Marriott International (2002), Renaissance Hotels & Resorts Inc., Executive Suites by Hilton Worldwide (2007) and Wyndham Garden Hotel & Conference Center (2011). Today, MountainHome boasts several restaurants such as Lone Star BBQ & Tex Mex Grill (2008), Big Daddy’s Pizza ($)(2006), KFC ($)(2002) and Mrs Love’s Cafe ($)(2005). There are also a variety of retail businesses such as Dollar General Store (), Walmart Supercenter (), Applebees () and T-Mobile (). Additionally, there are several parks located within walking distance of the town center including Shelly Park (), Anderson Park () and Forrest Park ().
